Comparison of perceptually uniform quantisation with average error minimisation in image transform coding
1999
An alternative transform coder design criterion based on restricting the maximum perceptual error of each coefficient is proposed. This perceptually uniform quantisation of the transform domain ensures that the perceptual error will be below a certain limit regardless of the particular input image. The results show that the proposed criterion improves the subjective quality of the conventional average error criterion even if it is weighted with the same perceptual metric.
Examining the role of religion in a family setting: religious attitudes and quality of life among parents and their adolescent children
2016
The study examined the role of religion in a family setting by evaluating relationships between religious attitudes and quality of life among parents and their adolescent children. Previous research suggested that religious beliefs and behavior play an important role in shaping family relations and their members’ well-being. The group of 465 parents and adolescents completed four scales measuring religiousness, quality of life, and satisfaction with life. Results using correlational analyses and cluster comparisons showed that religiousness had a significant effect on both subjective quality of life dimensions and satisfaction with life among parents and adolescents. Individuals characteriz…
Presurgical evaluation of bony implant sites using panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography—influence of medical education
2017
The aim of this study was to compare the subjective quality rating of panoramic radiography (PAN) and CBCT in the planning of dental implant procedures by clinicians with different educational backgrounds.Radiographic images (PAN and CBCT) of 42 patients were examined as follows: the maxillary (MX) anterior region of patients, the MX posterior region of 16 patients and the mandibular (MD) posterior region of 16 patients. These sites were used for planning of dental implant insertion. Data sets were analyzed by examiners with different training backgrounds: three general practitioners (GP), three oral surgeons (OS) and three maxillofacial surgeons (MS). A standardized questionnaire in a stan…
Conceptualizing and Measuring the Quality of Democracy: The Citizens' Perspective
2018
In recent years, several measurements of the quality of democracy have been developed (e.g. Democracy Barometer, Varieties of Democracy Project). These objective measurements focus on institutional and procedural characteristics of democracy. This article starts from the premise that in order to fully understand the quality of democracy such objective measurements have to be complemented by subjective measurements based on the perspective of citizens. The aim of the article is to conceptualize and measure the subjective quality of democracy. First, a conceptualization of the subjective quality of democracy is developed consisting of citizens’ support for three normative models of democracy …
Quality of individually calibrated customary printers for assessment of typical dental diagnoses on glossy paper prints: a multicenter pilot study.
2007
Objective The objective of this study was to compare dental radiographs printed on glossy paper from calibrated low-cost printers with monitor display. Study design Three typical intraoral radiographs were selected and a questionnaire was developed with questions assessing accuracy and subjective quality. A test pattern was designed for printer calibration. After calibration, radiographs were printed on glossy paper with 3 ink-jet and 2 thermo-sublimation printers. Sixteen raters evaluated the printed radiographs, 9 of them also on standardized viewing monitors. Subjective ratings were compared, and an ROC-analysis based on expert-consensus monitor readings was performed. Results Low inter-…
